The Kelley Family Visits Chastek Library

Image
This past week, the Chastek Library had the pleasure of having the family of William V. Kelley come up from California to pay us a visit and get a tour of the library. The Kelley Reading Room on the 1st floor of the Chastek Library is named after William V. Kelley. Mr. Kelley was a prominent member of the Washington bar, a former president of the Spokane County Bar Association (1940), and was a partner in the Spokane firm of Witherspoon Kelley. Fun fact, the famous journalist and celebrity author Kitty Kelley is the daughter of William V. Kelley.

Good Luck

From all of us at Chastek Library, we wish all those taking the bar exam (Washington, Idaho, Montana, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, California, Alaska, Hawaii, or any other state) the best of luck.

Pro Tip for the Bar Exam

Image
The Washington State bar exam is Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Many of our graduates taking it are traveling over today and tomorrow. Drive safely and get a good night's sleep before the exam. Pro Tip: you might want to pass on purchasing and consuming any sushi in that gas station off I-90 in George, Washington (or any gas station for that matter). It is also a bad time to explore sketchy looking food trucks in shady parts of Tacoma, Washington. Eat safe and bland f ood for the next two days, after Wednesday afternoon eat whatever you desire.  The same idea holds true for those taking the Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, or California bar exams. Good luck and do your best.

Image
On July 2, 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Pub. L. No. 88-352, 78 Stat. 241. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was the nation's premier civil rights legislation. The Act outlawed discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, required equal access to public places and employment, and enforced desegregation of schools and the right to vote.
